Since I make no attempts to hide my inner Geek, I thought that this would be a cool thread...For Example:

Name of the Software: Firefox
Where did you get it: http://www.AYHJA.com /:D" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt=":D" />
Cost: Free
Size: 4.7 MB
Version: 1.0.1
What is it: A Web Browser
Ease of Use: 7
Free Support: Yes

Description: Firefox is an open source software that should completely replace Internet Explorer as the #1 web browser on the planet...It is a safer, more secure browser, and supported by the open source community...Most of the browser add ons that you HAVE to have, come free in Firefox Extensions...It is also completely skinnable, and immune to many of the security issues that plague IE...

What I like Most: It is COMPLETELY customizeable, you can see and interact with the web the way you want...The extensions are awesome, you can have pretty much your whole PC at your fingertips...

What I like Least: Not all websites are FF compatible (shame on them) which means I still open up IE every once in a while...

Name of the Software: Messenger Plus
Where did you get it: http://www.mess.be/
Cost: Free
Size: 4.37 MB
Version: 3.52.130
What is it: MSN Messenger Enhancement
Ease of Use: 8
Free Support: Yes

Description: This program allows you to change several different things in Messenger, including the size of your DP, how messages are typed, user name display, and a ton of other great enhancements...

What I like Most: It is a gateway software, meaning it has lots of plugins for it...You can install additional plugins, that allow you to do lots of other things, like use tabbed messenger windows (One Window - Several different conversations)...

What I like Least: Came with some nasty sponsor ware, which has to be removed via the Control Panel...But other than that, I have no complaints..!

Name of the Software: WinRAR
Where did you get it: http://www.rarlab.com/
Cost: $29.00
Size: 960 KB
Version: 3.50 Beta 4
What is it: Data Compression Utility
Ease of Use: 8
Free Support: Yes

Description: Those of you familiar to the Gostosas section know full well what a RaR archive is...Using data storage algorithms, it resizes data to allow for faster transfers via smaller file sizes...

What I like Most: It's super easy to use, and convient...You can protect contents, and keep things organized...Things also take up alot less space, as it is easier to keep up with 1 RaR archive, than 1,000 images...It is also worth buying, I actually purchased this software...

What I like Least: Up until recently, the UI for WinRAR was quite shitty...But, with the 3.50 version, you can now download themes, which makes the program seem newer...To be honest, I can't really complain about this program at all, it is the best at what it does...

FTP Program

Name of the Software: SmartFTP
Where did you get it: http://www.smartftp.com/
Cost: Free
Size: 3.31 MB
Version: 1.1.985
What is it: FTP Program
Ease of Use: 8
Free Support: Yes

Description: FTP is the simplest and most efficient way to transfer data from the host machine to a server machine, IE, a machine on the internet...This program does that about as well or better than any I've ever used...

What I like Most: Aside from being easy to use, SmartFTP is fast, and used a Windows like drag and drop feature...You can also log into multiple sites at once, and keep track of data transfer speeds via a handy readout and a graph...The program also has logs, as well as server side modifications (file and folder creation, chmod, etc)...Did I say it was free..?

What I like Least: Despite being free, SmartFTP does have a pop up screen, reminding corporate users to register the software...As there is no way to tell between the two aside from whether or not the program is registered, you are greeted w/a small notification upon start up...Annoying, but not the end of the world...

Virus Software

by AYHJA
Name of the Software: AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall
Where did you get it: http://www.grisoft.com/doc/AvgPlusFw/lng/us/
Cost: Free
Size: 16 MB
Version: 7.0
What is it: Anti Virus Software and Intrusion protection
Ease of Use: 7
Free Support: ?

Description: These days, no computer should be without virus protection and a firewall for that matter...It is better to have it, and not need it, than to need it, and not have it...Virus' are little programs that practically destroy your machine, and they can arrive on you system in a variety of ways...A firewall is built to protect your PC by alerting you every time an attempt is made to either connect to your PC, or something on your PC wants to connect out...That is information you need to know...

What I like Most: After fucking w/Norton and such for plenty years, I have become a minimalist...This program updates frequently, and has all of the features present on other brand name solutions...It also has a very good firewall, that I can verify because I have 3 seperate firewalls on my system, and they all respond to activity...This one, responds first...The control panel is easy to manage, and it doesn't get in the way...It also loads fast, scans incoming and outgoing email...Did I mention that it is free..?

What I like Least: Not much bad I can say about this program, cept the system tray icon is ugly...Other than that, it's teh leet...Oh...Well, the program is in Beta state, but I have had nary an issue...But beta basically means its not finished, so, they could change some shit before the final version comes out...
