PS4 - Media Playback

#1

Post by Deepak »

So I have had my ps3 for a long time and yesterday I got a new lg uhdtv so I thought id upgrade to a ps4. I got home and I realised that I cant play and media content of an external hd.

Now Im pretty sure that this is not a feature available on a ps4 but im wondering if anyone has any idea how to bypass it or if this feature will ever be added onto ps4

The newest firmware has a music player but that seems to be it:

Yeah I saw that. I wish they went the way the ps3 with it being a amazing piece of machine.

yeah, the new systems all seem pretty limited aside from maybe the Xbox's media player.

There are some workarounds but they sound a bit clunky:

Yeah i saw plex too. It does seem a bit clunky . I do have a smart lg tv. So i can still plug into the tv but id rather use the ps4. Im kinda hoping that it will be a new patch for ps4 soon otherwise i will need to plug in my ps3 as well.

I know you're not going to like this suggestion but...Take that PS4 and put it on Auckland's version of Craigslist! I've been in line and outside to get every version of the PlayStation since they came out, so there's not a bigger fan boy than me. But when I sat down to look at it, the PS4 just wasn't cutting it compared to it's competitors.

May be a mute point now, but if you could get someone to buy that PS4 until they come out with the second, hiccup free version, you'd be doing yourself a solid...

They're pushing the new streaming service and the usual Netflix etc. apps, so it may take a while until they relent.

There's some decent Black Friday deals, but I'm still very much in wait and see mode.

Luckily I still have my ps3. I will use that as my media centre and just use ps4 only for gaming. Im sure eventually they will be giving into it.

Now that's smart Deep, I'm going to probably follow suit with you on that one. I won't be getting a PS4 without a working PS3. Namely, I can't see how they'd make a superior machine and cut out such a critical functionality, but then again, they did kill backwards compatibility w/the PS3 for the most part. Got to believe that the feature is there, although it may take some configuration to get it going. My money is on the idea that they will launch some sort of "Chromecast" like device that Sony can get a piece of that will add it...

PlayOn (playon.tv) apparently works pretty decently with all the new gen consoles, but it's another of those digital media servers.

My dilemma really is that the vast majority of the stuff I would want is going to end up on Steam.
