2010 World Cup News and Results

US sports broadcaster ESPN has released details of its World Cup 2010 television coverage - I'll be posting it below. We are getting FULL COVERAGE! This is great news for the few of you out there who are American soccer fans. Here’s why:

In other countries, you can take it for granted that football is a big deal and so the World Cup will be treated accordingly by your broadcaster. Not so much in the USA. The fact that ESPN is taking it seriously is to me a measure of the progress of soccer in America.

So what have they done?

1st, they've snagged Sky Sports legend Martin Tyler to be the lead commentator. Which is a coup. The man knows his business, so there will be no “Michael Beckham” faux pas this year.

2nd, ESPN has confirmed that ALL 64 matches will be broadcast live...in high definition...on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC.

3rd, of those 64 matches, 52 will be simulcast online at ESPN360.com. Which means many many Americans with be able to either secretly or not so secretly watch games at work 100% legally and in high quality (although the service is only available via certain internet providers). The only games not simulcast on ESPN360.com will be those being screened on ABC only. In which case, all you need is a TV and some bunny ears.

4th, every World Cup 2010 match will get a pre-game, half-time and post-game show, broadcast live and on location (which hasn’t always been the case).

All I can say is, we've come a long way, baby. Go USA!

I am so excited for the World Cup! I'm definitely going to watch as many games as possible. Rooting for the US but too many injuries and holes in the lineup to really succeed

1st game in less than 30 minutes!!!!! I Love this game!

I haven't really made any predictions, about individual games... I expect the US to struggle agains England but still come out at least 2nd in their bracket and advance. If that happens, they will probably have to face Germany and I'm not sure they could get past that. Still, they did beat Spain last year (huge deal for American soccer), so when the Americans are on their game, anything can happen.

I think when all is said and done, SPAIN will emerge victorious.

Here are my predictions for the teams that will survive the group play. I will list them as 1 and 2 for place in their group.

Group A: 1) Mexico 2) France

Group B: 1) Argentina 2) Greece

Group C: 1) England 2) USA

Group D: 1) Germany 2) Serbia

Group E: 1) Netherlands 2) Denmark

Group F: 1) Italy 2) Slovakia

Group G: 1) Brazil 2) Ivory Coast

Group H: 1) Spain 2) Chile

Blah, I cannot believe we (Nigeria) just gave up a goal to Argentina just 5 minutes into the game.

I just saw the highlights of the germany and aussie game. And yup ... aussie sucked and the game was a total mis match in terms of skill and talent and ofcourse the ability to score. Im backing argentina to win the word cup this year round if Messi can actually get his boots on properly and score the goals that he has the chance of scoring.
