[Tutorial] How to use the AO FTP

#1

Post by AYHJA »

Because our new server is FTP, and some may not be familiar with it, here's a tutorial to help with it, and specifically to help post your AF links using TILCT...

1. The first thing that you want to do is grab an FTP program...The program I will be using for this tutorial is SmartFTP...You can grab the latest version FOC from here...

2. Once you have it installed, open it up...Once you get to the main window, you will see this space:

This is where you input the information that I will send you via PM when you ask for an account...For instructional purposes, we are going to use Kramer...

Put the information that I send you into the program...Of course your password is hidden, and it is secure...Put it in your AF savebox so that you don't loose it...

Address: ayhja.org
Login: [email protected]

Once you login, you should see a window like so:

Now, all you have to do is drag and drop your archives in the FTP window...They will upload, and that's all there is to it...You can also right click where it says ayhja.org, and then go to Upload > Direct > Select Files and select the files that way...

My advice..? Host a pic with your sets so you can know what they are...Kinda like this:

But, I am a neat freak as everyone knows, so...But if you want to use that pic to display as your preview pic, make sure it is no wider than 750 pixels...But that is fine to do, so it may serve a purpose...So much for that...But that is pretty much it...No really, that's it...

OK, that isn't ALL there is, you still have to create your links for your files...Which can be a hassle if you are uploading many at once...Another original proggie comes in hand for this...TILCT...You can get it from

http://www.ayhja.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=348&t=8371

It needs no install, just extract it and run it...Once its open, use the file browser to select all of the archives you have uploaded to the server...

Now, at the very top of TILCT, there is a window...That is your URL skeleton...To create your links, you just formulate the skeleton to how you want your URL's to be displayed...For example, this is how you would formulate a simple URL for a file...

If you want http://www.ayhja.us/Kramer/ to be displayed in front of your file name, to give you CODEhttp://www.ayhja.us/Kramer/Kramer_KatiaCorrive ... edroom.rar for example, all you would have to do is form the skeleton like this:

And then click where it says, "Click Me"...That will give you a set of links that looks like this:

It says %IMGNAME%, but that is just a wildcard for the file name...You can pretty much use what you want...You can even put the entire BBCode in the box:

CODE[url=http://ayhja.org/Kramer/%IMGNAME%]Click Me...Hard

To get these:

It really is pretty neat...But, you will need to save your most used skeletons in a handy text file, because TILCT does not remember them...It also does several little text changes...Play with it, and maybe you'll find out something else it does...

If you need any help, or something is not clear, please let me know so I can amend this tut...In all actuality, this will be much better than using the HTTP, and WAI's program may even make this method obsolete...But this will get us started in the meantime...
