Uber:
When I saw that final boxscore, I just couldn't believe you had done it again. You won by less that half a point, man!
TT's players came up big when it mattered, but still, you managed to edge him out when the smoke cleared.
Unreal. Check out what Uber accomplished in week 1 of LAST year's opener. We should just call you the TT-Killer.
DL1:
How do you mean? You like my side of the deal?
Do you really like Rodgers and Harvin that much this year (those are the only two guys I got that might crack my lineup anytime soon).
McFadden was a throw-in request, because I thought (foolishly) to take Grant at his word, and he'd return in 2-4 weeks.
(Week one was so chaotic and bone-crushing, though. 12 starters already are out for the season just because they played in week 1.)
The pros:
I got rid of some headache players that were causing me to doubt who to start each week.
No longer need to rely on Romo as my only QB (from a 'Skins fan).
I received my favorite QB and future keeper selection in Rodgers.
The cons:
I had to give away a ton of good starting players to complete the deal.
Including three highly-coveted backs in this PPR format: S-Jax, J. Best + Hightower
I now have to decide what to do with Ryan Grant on my team.
The "eh":
I received the mercurial Percy Harvin as a "wait and see" project WR, hoping he develops into Favre's new best friend.
I dealt away Dez Bryant, a real surprising rookie who seems to have the whole of Cowboys' org. behind him.

Re: Fantasy Football 2010 [AF Elite]
Because even though you gave up a few good players you made up for it in spades just by getting one of the most consistent players week in and out in A-Rod. The league is full of middling RB's but there are only 4 superstar QB's to go around and those 4 can carry a team for the season. It's become such a pass happy league over the last 4 years that that should be everyone's priority secure one of the Big 4 and you did it. And I wouldn't even pick up Romo on waivers. The guy is SUPREMELY overrated all because he's a playboy and plays for the Cowboys. If he was on the Chiefs, you never hear of the douche. And Ryan Grant is a good keeper for next year. You be the swindler!!

Re: Fantasy Football 2010 [AF Elite]
Actually: (news you've probably heard, but also with player analysis insight)
FoxSports.com's Jay Glazer reports Ryan Grant is done for the season with severe ankle and leg injuries.
Grant's high ankle sprain also resulted in a fracture near his knee. He's expected to be placed on injured reserve, turning the backfield over to Brandon Jackson and John Kuhn. Any waiver wire debate this week over, with Jackson now the no-brainer choice. Though he's been a picture of health until this week, Grant's Green Bay career is now at a crossroads. Turning 28 in December, Grant has escalators in his contract that the Packers likely won't want to pay in 2011. He'll have to restructure to stay on.
Some think this was the worst time or Grant to experience such a catastrophic injury, as he was playing the string on his contract, and now his future with the Packers from here on in is totally unknown. He could be cut outright by next season's OTAs if the organization feels he is no longer needed, or worth, what his current contract is slated to pay him.Ryan Grant is expected to undergo surgery to repair the torn ligament in his right ankle.
He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Grant is expected to be on crutches for 10-12 weeks following surgery to repair the ligament holding two bones together. He won't even begin running again until winter time. The injury shouldn't affect Grant's 2011 season, but his future with the Packers is now up in the air.

For those wanting a little vicarious thrill:
I am going to allot a weekly segment towards my NFL.com fantasy league, the first time I've ever tried it.
It's different, but it's only one league (custom-scoring). I'm going to provide updates, and hopefully, at best, I'll have 4-5 "co-managers" to this one team.
Basics:
It's a PPR league (1 full point) that starts 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, and a flex W/R (plus the K and DEF).
Standardized scoring pretty much (25 pass, 4 passTD, 10 rush/receiving, off. TD 6, -2 turnovers)
It also scores punt/return yards, but it is modestly set at just 1 point per 25 return yards.
Fractional scoring is set, and from what I can rember about the league details, I believe its a keeper league.
So, what I'm asking is if you have any ideas, insights, or opinions on how you might run this team.
(we already lost in the first week. :disappoint: )
Current team name is "Speedy Recovery" ; if you have a wittier or more punworthy team name, I'm listening. ;)
Current starting roster consists of:
Romo, Charles, Peterson, Bowe, Smith (NYG), Finley, McCoy, Bironas, Titans
Bench consists of: Eddie Royal, Calvin Johnson, Thomas Jones, Danny Amendola , Zach Miller, Darren Sproles.
"We" just recently (as in this morning) got rid of Fred Jackson and Matthew Stafford, and were fortunate enough to land the claim on new GBstarter Brandon Jackson. The team also went ahead and picked up backup QB Hasselbeck, looking to just plug him in for the week 4 matchup at St. Louis (Romo's bye).
After this very long introductory into "our" new team, what I'm looking for essentially is do you think this team is in good shape? What should I upgrade, who should I deal after their next "big" week? Is the current week's starters alright, or do you think I should start someone else (and who would you relegate to the bench instead)?
Last question, yes or no? Do you think this might be too much of an investment of your thinking power?
(i.e. do you care?)

From Uber's comments:
I'm sure we can put it to a vote, but this time I'll make sure to inform the "entire league"Über wrote:I think I like the idea of no waivers as well...I mean, I think players should be rewarded you know..? If I'm paying attention to the game and the league, it almost seems unfair that I should have to wait in line...Guys have breakout games, or study rosters, and then a guy ahead of me on the waiver list who isn't doing the same thing can grab my guy cause he heard it was the trendy thing to do on SportsCenter...I mean, I don't know if we can remove that, or what bad vibes can brew from removing the waiver, but I think it would be worth a shot...
Even better, it would be cool if after the games that week have been decided, that the waiver order is changed to reflect a first come first serve mentality...
(that's the reason I kinda let the 2 QB-system slide by because my e-mail to TT and Ryan failed to go through)
It's also quite a pain to wait in this league until Thursday morning to see if you "won" your guy, instead of Tues./Wed. like in other leagues.
I'll put a poll up in the league within the week, and run this discussion by TT as well.
If we are lucky, and if Drew and erokero show up, I might be able to persuade the entire league to expect a change by week 4-6 this season.
If not, we'll just shelve the suggestion until next year.
Let's put it to a vote:
Those in favor of keeping waivers as is (meaning all free agent players will be locked at their scheduled gametime on Sundays, and will be placed on waivers until Tuesday / Thursday of the following week)
Those in favor of no waivers at all (meaning if you have the expendable roster spot, you can add any player at any time, regardless if they are currently involved in a game or not.)
Minimized waivers? I've only ever tweaked Yahoo's settings, but maybe I can get ESPN to cooperate and see if all waivered players can be found on Sunday and Monday only. That means by Tuesday morning, if you put in a claim, it will process itself, and for all the players remaining, they become free agents again.
I'll see what I can do to change the waiver ranking system, but since last season, it has been based on season standing (1-8) , and I think it only ever changes if you win, lose, or you make many claims. If you are the "loser" in the league, nearly every week's top free agent is available for you to pick and choose. It's fair, but then, it actually isn't - it's a handicap for the one lagging behind.
- - -
Vote for next season:
Would you like to try out a "free agent acquisition budget" (FAAB) instead? It's somewhat the same as waivers, as you are "bidding" against other teams for waivered free agents, but you can only pick up FA at a daily scheduled time, and you must bid some of your seasonal budget (ex. a percetage of your $100 pot) to acquire your desired player.
If you really want X player, you'll bid more of your money to acquire him now, but you need to be aware you are bidding blind against every one else, and you only find out if you've won or not by the next day. Be careful with bidding though. That money you get at the start of the season has to last for you until the end.
Big difference is: all free agents are on waivers all the time. Only way to get the player you want is to bid on them with your budget (minimum bid could be $0 or $1 or $5, depending on what kind of settings we'd like to use). You might need to familiarize yourself with assessing the worth of a hot free agent pickup to you, and if you know you'll be competing amongst your fellow teammates, you need to recognize (re: TRIPLE) your initial bid in order to have a chance at claiming the player.

Re: Fantasy Football 2010 [AF Elite]
I like the waiver as is. It's always inverse of current standings and I find that fair since it's not like anyone will want to get to last place just to get the first waiver spot. Plus is helps the lower ranked teams and keeps everyone closer to contention. Besides, you can set up multiple waiver claims and rank their priority. So if their are 3 "hot" waiver guys, you've gotta decide who you need/want most and take your chances on the others. And fyi, once your first waiver claim gets processed, you get bumped to the bottom of the list. So it's not like the last place team gets ALL their claims processed before everyone else.
But honestly, part of it is I don't want it to change since I watch the games @ my local bar and don't want to try and jump on a FA pickup from my phone. And I'd think guys in later time zones would have an advantage since they will more likely be awake/aware (less drunk?) at the end of the day's games? Waivers give everyone a day or two to decide or get informed.

Re: For those wanting a little vicarious thrill:
I benched Bowe for this week's matchup. Slated Megatron back in.
I don't know. I still don't feel confident with Calvin, especially in PPR (and with Hill passing, and with Eagles defending).
If you have a suggestion to bench him all over again, my initial leanings are toward starting:
(in the order I like the to have a good game) - Amendola, the annointed B-Jax, Royal (carp goes splash)
What do you say?

Re: Fantasy Football 2010 [AF Elite]
I dropped Bowe in my other league, he's just too damn inconsistent...With Detroit seemingly having found a RB, he should be just that much more productive...
BTW, I don't know how, but my kicker didn't make my roster...Even though I'm sure it won't matter, as I'm currently being killed with all of my team almost having played already, I'd still hope to have him stuck in so that its at least a respectable point total...Being that we only have one kicker on our teams, I don't think that's being unfair, but if it is, no worries...
