Ohio State bans Terrelle Pryor

Post by AYHJA »

Now, of course, I could give a damn about Ohio State...But this seems a little...Weird..?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ohio State said in a letter to Pryor's attorney Larry James today that the former quarterback has been "completely disassociated" with the program and would not have been reinstated to the team after his five-game suspension.

The school also has banned him from any contact with the athletic program for five years.

The team said the punishment stemmed not only from Pryor trading his memorabilia for tattoos, which is what prompted the NCAA's five-game suspension, but also because Pryor failed to cooperate with the NCAA regarding the investigation.

There were four other players suspended for trading memorabilia, but they're all still in school. As far as we know, they'll be eligible after they serve their suspensions and the school won't be banning them from the grounds.

So what did Pryor really do to make Ohio State want to distance itself from him so badly?

He was their poster boy and violated NCAA rules. Then his actions caused them to terminate the contract of their head coach. He basically left the program in a pile of rubble.

A lot of colleges have different levels of importance that they put on their sports programs. For Ohio State, their football program is a huge means to draw in not only students but also revenue. There's also OSU Medical Center that competes with other hospital systems in central Ohio (OhioHealth and Mount Carmel). Some people might have been rubbed the wrong way about the football program and take their health care somewhere else.

So in the long run this might cost OSU a lot of money.

But all in all, most of Columbus is a huge Buckeye area. I live there and I'm not a Buckeye fan but I see it everywhere I go. Good luck driving downtown during Buckeye games on Saturdays.

Wrong, but I know what you mean...Still, this isn't unprecedented, and we all know the NCAA is pretty harsh on these kids as it is, being that Ohio State University made more money off Pryor than he will make in his life...I don't know why the grapes are THAT sour...

It wasn't Pryor that brought in money. The constant winning brought that in. If anything, Pryor was seriously held back by Tressel's boring ball control offense. But the winning goes back a decade and several QBs did that before Pryor.
